My studio is everywhere.

I enjoy walking, wandering but always looking for something to stir my mind’s eye like a hunter looking for prey. My prey is something that has mystery, is out of place, causing unusual halts to my walk, like an interesting piece of art sometimes does at a show. Candy wrapper stuck in barbed wire? Maybe. Hard to explain. I grab my phone and catch my prey.

I draw all the time, not from observation just what wants out. I call it visual writing; they are my diaries.

When I read, wherever that is, I often stop and gasp because something in the writing, seemingly unrelated to me or my work, has helped me resolve an issue in the painting I am working on. The same with music. Listening to live music in a concert can open up my mind to a new level. It can trigger new ideas. Or evolve existing ones.

This is where the magic lies. In my studio and outside its walls.
